Copying a Google form can be convenient if they have similar questions or you want to replicate their format.
While copies of a Google form are quick to make, you must either be a collaborator or have editorial access to the existing form.
If you don’t, there’s no easy way to copy the form short of opening it side-by-side on a different tab with the form you’re currently working on.
Copying Someone Else’s Form
If you are neither the owner nor a collaborator of the form you want to copy, follow these steps:
- Open the form you wish to copy in Google Forms.
- You will see the option Request Edit Access in the bottom right corner. Click on it to request editorial rights from the owner of the form.
Request edit access. - An email will notify you whether your request is accepted or not. Unfortunately, if the owner does not grant you access, you cannot proceed.
An email notification lets you know if you’ve been granted access. - If the owner grants you access, return to the form. There will be an Edit icon on the bottom right. Click on it to go into the editing interface.
Click on the pencil icon to enable editing. - To make a copy of the form. Click on the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the form.
Click on the three-dot menu. - Select the Make a copy from the menu.
Select make a copy.
- Write a title for the new form in the window that pops up.
Give your form a title. - You can also choose the location you want your new form saved to in Google Drive.
Specify a location for your new form. - Finally, you can choose if you want to share the copy with the same collaborators or not.
Mark the box if you wish to share with the same people. - Finally, select Make a copy, and your copy of the form will be created!
Click Make a copy.
Duplicating a form you already own or have editorial access to
- Open the form you want to duplicate.
Open the form in Google Forms. - Click on the three-dots menu on the top right.
Click on the three-dots menu. - Select Make a copy.
Select Make a copy. - In the window that appears, type the title of the copied document.
Add the title of the copied form. - You can choose where you want to save the new copy.
Change the destination of the file from here. - Finally, click on Make a copy. The Google Form is now duplicated!
