If you don’t remember your Windows 11 login page password, you’ll be stuck and unable to log in. There are several options to bypass the Windows 11 login page when you’ve lost your password. Follow this guide, and we’ll help you to get back in!
Method #1: Answer your security questions
This method only works if you previously set and can still remember your security questions.
- Switch on your computer. Type anything in the Password field and press Enter.
- Now, click Reset Password.
Click Reset Password. - You will see three security questions. Answer them correctly, then press Enter.
Answer the security questions and press Enter. - Windows will now allow you to set a new password. Enter your new password. Type it again for confirmation, then hit Enter.
After successfully answering the security questions, you can set a new password. You can now log in with the new password!
Method #2: Sign in to your Microsoft Account
This method only works if your Windows account is linked to your Microsoft account.
- Go to Microsoft’s password reset page (you can do this on any device). Then, enter your Microsoft account email or phone number.
Go to Microsoft’s account recovery page and sign in to your account. - To verify your identity, click Get code.
Click Get code to verify your identity. - Check your email for the code.
Check your email for the code. - Enter that code in Microsoft’s reset password account page, then click Next.
Enter the code and click Next. - You can now type in a new password for your Microsoft account. Type it again for confirmation. Once done, click Next. You can now use this password for logging into your Windows account.

Method #3: Use command prompt
This method only works if you have another account on the same computer with administrative privileges.
- Log in to the account that has administrator privileges.
- Press Windows + R to open the Run command. Type cmd and press Enter.
Open the Run command, type cmd, and click Enter. - Type
net user accountname newpassword
Replace accountname with your Windows account name and newpassword with the new password you want to set for your account.
Set your new password by entering the command. You can now log in to your account using the new password that you’ve set!
Method #4: Launch command prompt from safe mode
This method can be used when you don’t have access to another administrator account on the computer.
- Click the Power symbol in the bottom-right of the sign-in screen. Next, while holding down the Shift key, select Restart. Your PC will start up in the Windows Recovery Environment.
Press Shift + Enter to activate Windows Recovery Environment. - When your computer restarts, click on Troubleshoot.
Select Troubleshoot. - Select Advanced options.
Select Advanced options. - Next, select Startup Settings.
Select Startup Settings. - Now, click Restart.
Select Restart. - When you see the logo of your computer, press and hold F6. This will boot your computer in safe mode with the command prompt.
- In the command prompt, type:
net user accountname newpassword
Replace accountname with your Windows account name and newpassword with the new password you want to set for your account.
Enter the command to set up your new password. You’ve now created a new password for your user.
Method #5: Use a password reset disk or USB flash drive
You can only use this method if you previously created a password reset USB drive or disk.
- Insert the password reset disc or flash drive into your computer and turn your PC on.
- Once on the login screen, type anything in the Password field and hit Enter.
- Now, click on Reset password.
Select Reset password. - Below the security questions, you can see Use a password reset disk instead. Click on it.
Select Use a password reset disk instead. - The Password Reset Wizard will launch. Choose your USB drive or disk in the wizard and follow the prompts to change your password.

Method #6: Reset your computer (last resort)
You can use this method as a last resort. You will have to reset your computer.
We only recommend this step if you already have important files backed up. If you don’t, you should contact a computer repair shop. They will be able to extract any important data from your hard drive.
Then, follow these steps:
- On your login screen, click on the Power icon. Next, hold the Shift key and click on Restart.
Press Shift + Enter to activate Windows Recovery Environment. - You will see Choose an option. Select Troubleshoot, then select Advanced options.
Select Troubleshoot. Pick Advanced options. - Choose System Restore.
Click System Restore. - You will see two options:
Keep my files: the reset will remove third-party applications and reset your settings but preserve your files.
Remove everything: the reset will delete third-party applications, reset your settings and delete your files. - Next, choose if you want Cloud Download or Local Reinstall.
- Finally, click the Reset option. After your computer resets, you’ll be able to log in without a password.
